PART 2: THE RICHEST RANCHER’S SECRET

PART 2: THE RICHEST RANCHER’S SECRET
That evening, Abigail discovered why Wyatt Montgomery had come to Prosper.

The Lazy M Ranch was drowning in debt. Jedediah had borrowed heavily from several lenders, using the property as security. He had concealed the truth from his daughters, hoping to arrange Lydia’s marriage to a wealthy man who could rescue him.

But Wyatt had already purchased the outstanding debts.

He now controlled the future of the entire ranch.

“You bought our land?” Abigail asked, her voice trembling.

“I bought the debts,” Wyatt corrected. “The land is still yours if you choose to fight for it.”

“Why would you do that?”

Wyatt looked at her for a long moment.

“Because three months ago, I watched you give your last clean blanket to a sick ranch hand while your father complained about the cost of replacing it. I watched you repair a wounded animal nobody else believed would survive. You never knew I was there.”

He paused.

“I have met hundreds of beautiful women, Miss Miller. Very few possess the courage you carry without asking anyone to notice.”

Lydia overheard everything. That night, she confronted Abigail and accused her of stealing the only man she truly wanted.

But Abigail finally found the courage to answer.

“You never wanted the men, Lydia. You only wanted to make certain I could never have them.”

The next Sunday, Wyatt returned to the church with his final proposal. Before the entire town, he revealed that he had come to marry Abigail, not her sister.

Jedediah protested, but Wyatt produced documents proving the old man’s financial deception and years of unpaid wages owed to Abigail.

For the first time, Abigail had something her father could not take away: the truth.

She did not accept Wyatt’s proposal immediately. She wanted a life built on respect, not rescue.

Wyatt smiled.

“Then let me earn your trust, one day at a time.”

Months later, Abigail stood beside him on the porch of a restored ranch house, wearing a simple blue dress she had chosen herself.

Lydia had left Prosper after her lies were exposed. Jedediah was forced to answer for his debts.

And Abigail finally understood something she had never believed possible.

She had never been the wrong daughter.

She had simply spent too many years surrounded by people who could not recognize her worth.
