Tiny Preemie Born at Just 508g Overcomes Incredible Start to Life and Continues to Grow Strong

A baby girl who entered the world weighing only 508 grams is now reaching new milestones, bringing hope and joy to her family after an extraordinary journey that began far too early.
Éloïse Remi Perry was born at just 26 weeks of pregnancy after her mother, Magen, experienced severe pregnancy complications. Doctors diagnosed Magen with preeclampsia that progressed into HELLP syndrome, a rare and serious condition that required urgent medical care.

Because of the situation, Magen was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, where doctors performed an emergency cesarean section. Éloïse was born weighing only 508 grams (about 1.1 pounds) and measuring just 27 centimeters long, making her one of the tiniest babies in the hospital’s Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit.

Due to her extremely early arrival and small size, Éloïse was considered a “micro preemie,” meaning she required highly specialized medical care and close monitoring during the earliest months of her life.
Doctors expected that her hospital stay would be long, and her mother made the difficult decision to relocate to Toronto so she could stay close to her daughter during treatment. The move meant living nearly 500 kilometers away from home.

Meanwhile, the rest of the family — father Scott and their four-year-old son Henri — remained at home and traveled back and forth whenever possible so they could support Magen and spend time with Éloïse.
After more than three months in the neonatal intensive care unit, the family finally received the moment they had been hoping for.

After 101 days in the NICU and 105 days since Magen had been flown to Toronto, Éloïse was finally able to go home.
The long wait made the reunion even more meaningful. For the first time in months, the family could simply enjoy being together.

Since returning home, Éloïse has continued to grow stronger. Now six months old — three months adjusted for her early birth — she is doing remarkably well and meeting her developmental milestones for her corrected age.
Her latest checkup brought more good news: Éloïse now weighs 8 pounds and 1 ounce, a huge milestone compared to her tiny starting weight.

According to her family, she is a happy baby who loves to smile and rarely gets upset.
Although her journey began with many challenges, Éloïse will continue to be followed closely by her medical team from both Toronto and North Bay for the next several years to ensure she continues to grow and develop well.

For her family, every milestone is a reminder of how far she has come.
And if her determination so far is any sign of the future, little Éloïse is more than ready to face whatever comes next — one smile at a time.
