Girl, 7, fighting for life with meningitis just weeks after she was bridesmaid at parents’ wedding

It was supposed to be a celebration – but for one couple, the happiest day of their lives quickly turned into a nightmare.
Their daughter, seven-year-old Brogan-Lei Partridge, was diagnosed with meningitis B during their honeymoon in Cornwall and had to be taken to hospital.

Both of her legs showed a severe rash, and she had medical tubes and equipment attached to her body – and doctors decided they would have to carry out a procedure on one of her feet to save her life.
Mother Aimee, 25, and father Craig, 29, have shared photos of their daughter at Birmingham Children’s Hospital to raise awareness about meningitis B.

Just days before, she had been a bridesmaid at their wedding.
Midwife trainee Aimee, from Bartley Green in Birmingham, said: “We went from the happiest day of our lives when we got married to this. It was overwhelming, but Brogan is an absolute star.”

“We found out that doctors will have to carry out the procedure on her left leg this week.”

“Her father told her and she was really relieved. She thought she might not survive but she hadn’t told us that.”

Auto parts worker Craig added: “We want to raise awareness about meningitis B and its symptoms.
Many people are unaware of the seriousness because the illness can appear similar to common conditions, making it difficult for parents to recognize.”

She first developed an eye infection after her parents’ wedding, which took place in Malvern Hills in Worcestershire on June 18.
The schoolgirl was given antibiotics, but Aimee took her to their family doctor after she noticed a skin rash when the family returned from their honeymoon in Newquay, Cornwall.

She was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital on June 27, where she was diagnosed with meningitis B.
Doctors initially told her parents she might only lose her toes, but later informed them that her entire left foot would need to be surgically removed.

Despite her ordeal, Brogan-Lei recorded a video message from her hospital bed. She told the kind people, “Thank you all for being so kind. I know you all want me to get well soon. I will do that.”
Aimee and Craig had been together for ten years and had three other children – son Harloe, two, daughter Niabhy, five, and Nualah, one.
