BORN PREMATURE AND MISSING HIS RIGHT HAND, LITTLE JETTSEN IS FIGHTING STRONG THROUGH EVERY CHALLENGE

What was supposed to be a joyful month of preparation quickly turned into an emotional and unexpected journey for new parents Logan and Jaylyn.

On February 8, the couple welcomed their baby boy, Jettsen, into the world nearly a month earlier than expected. But shortly after his birth, doctors discovered that little Jettsen was born missing his right hand and would need specialized medical care due to complications related to his premature arrival.
Now, the tiny newborn is spending his first weeks of life in the NICU at Primary Children’s Hospital, where he continues to fight with incredible strength each day.

Doctors expect Jettsen to remain hospitalized for at least another six to eight weeks as his fragile body continues to develop and recover. Throughout it all, his parents have remained by his side constantly — comforting him, speaking softly to him, and holding onto hope during every difficult moment.
For Logan and Jaylyn, leaving the hospital room has become almost impossible emotionally.

“He’s so small, but he’s fighting so hard,” Logan shared. “Every little movement, every time he opens his eyes, feels like a victory to us.”
His tiny body is working hard every day, and he needs his mom and dad by his side constantly for comfort, bonding, and advocacy. Parents are the only ones allowed in the NICU, and their presence means everything to him during this critical time.

Jaylyn is a school teacher with only six weeks of maternity leave. Logan’s job does not offer paid leave beyond the vacation time he has already used. This means that while they are spending every possible moment with their newborn son, they are also facing the heavy burden of lost income.

To make matters even more difficult, the hospital caring for Jettsen is out of their insurance network, leaving them responsible for significant out-of-pocket medical expenses — both now and in the months to come.

Still, despite the uncertainty and exhaustion, their focus remains entirely on their son.

“Nothing matters more than being with him right now,” Jaylyn said. “We just want him to feel loved every second of every day.”
