A SPECIAL-NEEDS GIRL, LEFT BY HER BIRTH MOTHER, SURVIVED THANKS TO THE LOVE OF “STRANGERS.”

Three-month-old Nika, a baby with a serious brain condition, was left behind by her own mother in a garbage dump. Two years later, she experienced an incredible recovery thanks to the love and compassion of a stranger.

Sarah, 28, a kind and compassionate woman, left her homeland to work at a children’s medical center in Haiti, a small Caribbean nation. She interacted with many families and their children, including a very special child named Nika.

It all began when a young woman entered Sarah’s workplace with a three-month-old baby girl named Nika. Nika suffered from a severe brain condition, causing her head to swell abnormally, requiring immediate medical attention.

Sadly, however, Nika’s mother seemed more concerned about the judgmental stares of others than about providing the best possible care for Nika. Nika’s case was rare in the community, so her mother simply hid her in a blanket to avoid the attention of others.

Unfortunately, this is not uncommon in Haiti. Many people believe disabilities bring misfortune, and those who come into contact with them may also be affected. Sarah also learned that, before Nika was born, her mother had attempted to end the pregnancy by drinking harmful substances because of difficult personal circumstances. She even tried to give Nika away for medical purposes.

Sarah continued working with Nika and her mother, but as time went on, she realized that Nika’s weight loss wasn’t due to lack of food, but rather to her mother’s neglect.

In August, Sarah visited Nika’s home to check on her health. Sarah was shocked to find Nika alone in the house, lying on a sack of rice surrounded by trash. She was 11 months old and weighed only 6 kg. Sarah eventually convinced Nika’s mother to let her take Nika to her orphanage, where she could receive better care.

Sarah wrote on her website: “In the first week I cared for Nika, I felt she was a sweet little girl.”

However, Nika’s internal organs were in extremely critical condition. 99% of infants with the same condition as Nika would not have survived this long. Miraculously, she overcame her harsh circumstances even in the worst conditions.

After six months of caring for Nika 24/7, Sarah officially became Nika’s legal guardian. Sarah has vowed to dedicate her life to caring for and protecting the resilient little girl, Nika. Sarah’s boyfriend, Stephen, also plays a significant role in providing Nika with a loving family home. Nika now has a true family, where she receives attentive care, is always surrounded by love, and experiences happiness on special occasions and holidays.

Nika has undergone a second neurosurgery, reducing her head circumference by nearly two inches, and her health has significantly improved.

Now two years old, Nika continues her journey with strength and resilience. She currently lives with her compassionate foster mother in southern Louisiana, USA.

Thousands of people around the world are now following Sarah and Nika’s story. Everyone believes Nika is a little girl who “deserves to be loved, cherished, and supported as she overcomes her challenges.”

Luckily, Nika met Sarah, a wonderful woman who showered her with love and care. Thousands of people continue to send prayers and support, hoping that the mother and daughter will always live in the best possible circumstances.
