BRILYN WAS BORN AT 25 WEEKS WITH A SERIOUS BOWEL CONDITION AND JUST A 10–15% CHANCE AFTER HALF HIS BOWEL HAD TO BE REMOVED

Baby Brilyn arrived in the world on March 7, nearly four months early. Born at just 25 weeks, he weighed only 1lb 6oz and measured 11 inches long — tiny enough to fit into the smallest of blankets, yet already facing an enormous fight.
His first weeks were spent in intensive care at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Then, at just three weeks old, Brilyn developed a serious infection in his abdomen and was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Omaha.
Doctors watched closely and waited as long as they safely could before surgery became unavoidable.
When the time finally came, Brilyn’s family was told the operation carried a deeply uncertain outlook, with doctors estimating only a 10–15 percent chance that he would pull through.

His sister was allowed to see him before the procedure — a heartbreaking moment for a family preparing themselves for every possibility.
During the surgery, doctors discovered that much of Brilyn’s bowel had been affected. They had to remove around half of his bowel, along with additional damaged tissue. Because his abdomen needed time to heal, doctors used pig skin to temporarily help close the surgical area.
Brilyn also needed a colostomy bag, which he will keep until doctors can perform another operation when he is around six to nine months old.
For his family, the days and weeks that followed became a journey of patience, hope and countless prayers.
There were moments when the future seemed impossible to predict, but Brilyn kept surprising everyone. His tiny body continued to heal, one day at a time.
His family believes that the prayers surrounding him — along with the memory of a beloved grandmother who passed away just two months before Brilyn and his cousin were born — gave them strength through the hardest moments.

“Sometimes we are tested beyond our limits,” his family shared. “When you feel like you can’t handle it yourself, you lean on God.”
After weeks of medical care and a remarkable recovery, the tiny premature baby who once faced such uncertain odds has now reached another important milestone.
He recently completed his car-seat test, and his family is preparing for the possibility of finally bringing him home.
If everything continues to go according to plan, Brilyn could leave the hospital on Sunday.
For a baby who entered the world weighing barely more than a pound, his journey has already been extraordinary.
He has faced premature birth, a serious intestinal infection, major surgery, the loss of a significant portion of his bowel and a long road of recovery — yet he continues to fight his way toward home.
Now, after everything his family has been through, their greatest wish is wonderfully simple: to hold Brilyn at home, surrounded by the people who have prayed for him every step of the way.
“Keep the faith,” his family says.
