EXCEPTIONAL ARRIVAL: THE STORY OF A REMARKABLE NEWBORN WHO OUTGREW HIS INCUBATOR
A mother of seven from Wallasey, Merseyside, experienced a truly unforgettable delivery when her newborn son arrived weighing an astounding 12 pounds 10 ounces (5.7 kilograms). Leanne Hutchinson, 34, and her husband Nathan were accustomed to babies weighing around eight pounds, as their previous six children had all been born at average weights. However, throughout her pregnancy with Thomas, passersby frequently inquired if she was expecting twins due to the noticeable size of her bump.

During a routine 36-week ultrasound, medical staff observed Thomas’s extraordinary growth and scheduled a planned cesarean section three weeks early to avoid severe delivery risks. The operation itself proved challenging; surgeons struggled to extract the baby due to his sheer size. Once delivered, the operating surgeon was so astounded by Thomas’s weight that he requested permission to take a photograph, confirming it was the largest baby he had ever delivered.

Shortly after birth, Thomas experienced breathing complications and required specialized care in the neonatal unit at Arrowe Park Hospital. Upon arrival, medical personnel realized he could not fit comfortably into a standard incubator, requiring them to locate a larger unit. Beside tiny premature infants, Thomas presented a striking sight in the nursery. Fortunately, he responded swiftly to treatment, experiencing no lasting complications. Today, he has settled into an average weight range for his age, thriving as a calm, affectionate boy surrounded by his six doting older siblings.
