THE CHIEF’S UNEXPECTED DEMAND

THE CHIEF’S UNEXPECTED DEMAND
Chief Takakota listened as his son explained how the stranger had risked his own life to save him.
The warriors watched Caleb with suspicion. Nobody understood why a white man would willingly save an Apache warrior.
Then the chief stepped forward and addressed the entire gathering.
“Your blood is now tied to ours.”
Caleb stood silently, unsure what those words meant.
The chief continued, explaining that such a debt could not be repaid with gold or horses.
Then came an unexpected announcement.
“To settle this debt, you will marry my daughter, Aayita.”
Caleb felt his entire world collapse.
He had spent three years running from his past, avoiding every connection that might bring him pain. Now, he was being offered a future he had never imagined.
Across the gathering, Aayita stood silently, watching the stranger her father had just chosen for her.
Neither of them knew what the future would bring.
Would Caleb accept the chief’s demand, or would he risk angering an entire tribe by refusing?
And could two strangers, brought together by an act of mercy, ever find something neither had expected?
The most unexpected chapter of Caleb’s life was only beginning.
