THE PROPOSAL THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

THE PROPOSAL THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Inside the farmhouse, Silas wrapped Eloin in a warm blanket and placed another log into the fireplace. He prepared hot soup and carefully examined her injured ankle.
The next morning, Eloin discovered that the mountain man was not as cold-hearted as he appeared. He had quietly repaired her torn dress, prepared breakfast, and even built a small wooden support to help her move around.
Days passed, and an unexpected friendship began to grow between them.
Silas rarely spoke about his past, but Eloin noticed the loneliness hidden behind his rough appearance. He had lost his wife years earlier and had promised himself never to let anyone into his heart again.
One evening, as the sunset painted the mountains gold, Silas stood beside the window and finally spoke.
“I know you have nowhere to go,” he said. “But I don’t want you to stay here because you have no choice.”
Eloin looked at him, confused.
He turned toward her, his expression serious.
“Marry me. Not because you need protection, and not because I feel sorry for you. Marry me because I want to build a life with you.”
Eloin stared at him, unable to speak.
For the first time, someone was asking her to stay instead of treating her as a burden.
But just as she began considering his proposal, a distant wagon appeared on the mountain road.
Her family had returned.
And they had not come to apologize.
They had come for something Silas possessed, something they believed Eloin could help them take.
What happened next would reveal the real reason they had abandoned her.
