The Grinch 3 (2025)

The Grinch 3 (2025) is the highly anticipated third installment of the beloved animated franchise that continues the Grinch’s journey of transformation and redemption. Following the success of How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2018) and the heartwarming story of his change of heart, The Grinch 3 takes audiences on another wild and humorous ride, blending Christmas spirit with an adventurous plot and, of course, a good dose of Grinch-style mischief.

Plot and Storyline
In The Grinch 3, the once-curmudgeonly Grinch (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) is now somewhat of a reformed character, still living in Whoville after his miraculous change of heart. However, his newfound peace is soon disrupted when a new holiday arrives in Whoville—Whoville Day—an even bigger celebration than Christmas! The entire town is consumed by the holiday preparations, but the Grinch, still adjusting to his role as a beloved town member, begins to feel out of place.
To complicate matters, the Whos’ festive celebration is threatened by a new villain, The Frost King, a cold-hearted figure from a far-off land who plans to steal the spirit of joy from Whoville. With the holiday spirit at stake, the Grinch must once again save the day—only this time, he has more to lose than ever before. He’s now part of a community that loves him, and he’ll need to rely on his newfound friends, including Cindy Lou Who (voiced by Rashida Jones), who is now a young adult and a rising star in Whoville.
The Grinch embarks on an adventurous journey with Cindy Lou and his trusty dog Max, facing challenges that will test not only his character but his ability to truly understand the meaning of family, community, and togetherness. As the Grinch finds himself torn between his mischievous ways and his growing responsibility to others, the film balances humor, heart, and holiday magic to create a story that is both fresh and nostalgic.
Character Development and Performances
The Grinch’s character development is at the forefront of this sequel. Benedict Cumberbatch reprises his role as the iconic green curmudgeon, continuing to bring depth to the character with his comedic timing and emotional range. While the Grinch has embraced the idea of friendship and community, he still struggles with the notion of vulnerability and the pressures of fitting into the Whoville social scene.
Cindy Lou Who’s role is expanded in The Grinch 3. She’s no longer the innocent child who looked up to the Grinch, but a confident, capable young woman who has grown into a leader in the town. Her relationship with the Grinch is central to the plot, as she teaches him the value of opening up to others, while the Grinch helps her rediscover her childhood wonder. The dynamic between the two is both heartwarming and humorous.
Max, the Grinch’s faithful dog, provides a lot of the physical comedy, and his interactions with the Grinch continue to be both funny and endearing. The dog remains the Grinch’s emotional anchor and the perfect foil for his antics.
