The story begins as Alita, now fully aware of her combat prowess and her capabilities as a “warrior from the past,” sets her sights on the floating city of Zalem, where she believes the answers to her origins lie. Alita learns of an underground resistance movement that is fighting to take down Zalem’s corrupt rulers. Among the resistance fighters is Nina (Gina Rodriguez), a former engineer with ties to the city’s past and a fierce believer in Alita’s destiny as the key to defeating the oppressive regime.

But Zalem’s grip on the world is tightening, and the powerful Nova (Mahershala Ali), the true mastermind behind the city’s rule, is pulling the strings from the shadows. Nova, who was revealed at the end of the first film, is determined to harness Alita’s power to maintain his control and bring about a new world order, and he will stop at nothing to see Alita brought under his control.

As Alita ventures closer to the truth of her origins, she faces new and terrifying enemies, including the brutal Assassin Drones (led by Vector, played by Jennifer Connelly), who are sent by Nova to stop her at all costs.
