COCO 2 (2025)

Pixar’s Coco (2017) was a heartwarming, visually stunning journey that explored the power of family, memory, and legacy through the vibrant and colorful world of the Day of the Dead. The film’s captivating portrayal of Mexican culture, along with its emotional depth, touched the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning multiple accolades, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. With the release of Coco 2 in 2025, the question on everyone’s mind is: Can the sequel live up to the magic of the original? The answer is a resounding yes.

Coco 2 picks up several years after the events of the first film, following Miguel Rivera (voiced once again by Anthony Gonzalez) as a young adult now pursuing his music career with the blessing of his family. While his relationship with his parents and grandmother remains strong, Miguel’s connection to the Land of the Dead, once the source of his discovery and reconciliation with his ancestors, has waned as he’s become more focused on his future.

However, when a new, mysterious threat emerges in the Land of the Dead—one that could disrupt the flow of memories between the living and the dead—Miguel is once again called upon to help. This time, the journey will take him beyond the borders of the Land of the Dead, into the very heart of Mexican culture, where new and old traditions blend together.

Miguel, along with his loyal companions—his dog Dante and his great-great-grandfather, Héctor (voiced by Gael García Bernal)—embark on an epic adventure to save the memory of the deceased, restore balance, and ensure that the stories of their ancestors live on in the hearts of future generations. Along the way, they meet new characters, both living and dead, who help them rediscover what truly matters: the power of stories, the importance of remembering loved ones, and the value of family.
