Sheriff’s Deputy Charged in Car Crash That Killed Groom-to-Be and Injured Fiancée Just One Month Before Their Wedding

A California sheriff’s deputy has been charged in connection with a fatal car crash that killed a groom-to-be and seriously injured his fiancée while the couple was preparing for their wedding, which was set to take place just one month later.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Glynn Wilburn faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, felony reckless driving causing serious injury, and a great bodily injury enhancement, according to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
The tragic incident occurred on September 6, 2025. Wilburn was responding to reports of shots fired and was reportedly traveling at approximately 100 mph on Cherry Valley Boulevard before entering an intersection at about 71 mph, where he collided with the couple’s vehicle.

Gavin Hinkley, the driver, was killed in the crash. His fiancée, Madeline Fox, suffered severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, multiple fractures (eye socket, jaw, rib, hip, pelvis, and lower spine), internal injuries, a punctured lung, and a facial laceration. She has had to relearn basic skills such as swallowing due to her brain injury.
At the time of the collision, Gavin and Madeline were running errands and preparing for their upcoming nuptials.
Fox’s family issued a statement saying the tragedy was preventable:
“What happened to Gavin and Madeline was preventable. They deserved the opportunity to build the life they had planned together.”
Gavin’s parents, Lauren and Cory Hinkley, remembered their son as “a beloved brother, fiancé, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend” who was “kind, hardworking, and deeply loved.”
“He had his entire life ahead of him—a future filled with dreams, plans, and a wedding to the woman he loved. That future was taken from him in an instant.”
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco acknowledged the charges in a statement, noting that the California Highway Patrol conducted a thorough investigation. He expressed condolences to the families and emphasized the need for due diligence during emergency responses.
A GoFundMe campaign set up to support Madeline Fox’s recovery has raised over $47,000 as of the latest reports.
An arraignment date for Deputy Wilburn has not yet been scheduled.
