A tiny South Texas baby who has already overcome so much is now facing another fight for his life.

Patty Diaz, a mother from the McAllen area, welcomed her son, Luke Bryan, on June 21 after a dangerous case of preeclampsia forced doctors to deliver him at just 30 weeks. Her blood pressure had reached 210/120, and Luke entered the world weighing only 3 pounds, 9 ounces.

For two weeks, every small gain in the NICU gave his family hope. Every good update felt like one step closer to the day Patty could finally bring her baby boy home.

Then everything changed.

Patty says Luke suddenly began vomiting, and doctors discovered a serious birth defect that now requires specialized surgery. He has been placed on a ventilator while doctors work to transfer him to a specialized hospital in Cincinnati, where surgeons hope to perform the operation that could save his life.

When Patty described what happened, her words were heartbreaking:

“He was fine. I really can’t understand it. It happened so fast.”

No parent should have to face the fear of watching their tiny baby prepare for emergency surgery, unsure of what the next hours may bring.

Patty believes God has carried Luke this far, and she is holding on to faith that He is not finished with her son’s story.

Please pray for baby Luke.

Pray that he stays stable. Pray for a safe transfer. Pray for the doctors, nurses, and surgeons caring for him. Pray for strength and peace for Patty as she waits beside her baby boy.

And most of all, pray that one day soon, this little fighter who came into the world so small will leave the hospital safely in his mother’s arms.

If your child has ever been in the NICU or faced a life-threatening surgery, please leave a few words of encouragement for Patty. Sometimes a message from someone who has walked that road can bring more comfort than you know.
