Parents Laura and Adam, 30, learned little Millie Woodward had gastroschisis at the 12-week scan. After her birth, she underwent a procedure within hours to place her organs safely back inside her body.
A baby who was born with a rare condition that caused her intestines to develop outside her body underwent surgery just hours after she was born.
Parents Laura and Adam, 30, learned little Millie Woodward had gastroschisis at the 12-week scan.

The diagnosis terrified them, but Millie was born via a planned C-section and within hours her organs were carefully placed back inside her body.
Laura, 24, said: โTo look at her now, youโd never think sheโs been through all of that.
โMy whole world stopped when the sonographer told me they were โsorryโ โ I thought that was it.
โBut after the most stressful time of our lives she arrived, and it couldnโt have gone better.
โWeโre so proud of her, sheโs a beautiful little girl.โ

The couple, who already had children Ava, seven, Zachary, five, and Tommy, two, went for a specialist scan to gain more insight into their daughterโs birth condition.
Doctors confirmed she would be born with gastroschisis.
Laura said: โThey tried to reassure us but it sounded terrifying.
โWe were told I didnโt have to continue with the pregnancy if I didnโt want to, but there was no way I wasnโt giving our baby a chance. They told us it was a high survival rate and something that can be treated โ so we just have to hope for the best.โ

Millie, now nine months, arrived at 11 minutes past 11 on December 11 last year, weighing 5lb 11oz.
Laura said: โIโve always thought 11 is a lucky number, even more so now.
โWhen she arrived they carefully covered her exposed organs and allowed me to hold her for a bit, which was just what I needed after all those months of worry.โ
Millie received corrective surgery to place her small and large intestine into her body, an operation that went โincredibly smoothlyโ at Alder Hey Childrenโs Hospital in Liverpool.

Laura, of Clitheroe, Lancashire, added: โYouโd never think sheโs been through so much. She just has an outie belly button to show for it and is a little smaller than her friends.
โI try not to molly-coddle her but I want to do everything I can to protect her now sheโs here. Sheโs just perfect in every way.โ
