BORN A MONTH EARLY, BABY JETTSEN FACES LIFE IN THE NICU AFTER ARRIVING WITHOUT HIS RIGHT HAND

Baby Jettsen was supposed to have more time before entering the world. Instead, on February 8, he arrived a month early, beginning a journey his family never expected.

His grandparents say their son Logan and daughter-in-law Jaylyn were overjoyed to welcome their precious baby boy — but that joy quickly came with unexpected challenges. Jettsen was born without his right hand and is also facing additional complications related to his premature birth.

Now, the tiny newborn is being cared for in the NICU at Primary Children’s Hospital, where doctors expect him to remain for at least another six to eight weeks.

Every day brings another test of his strength. His little body is working hard to grow stronger, while his parents stay by his side as much as possible, providing the comfort, love and support he needs.

“Being able to hold him, talk to him and simply be there means everything,” his family shared. “He may be tiny, but he has already shown us how strong he can be.”

Only his parents are allowed to visit him in the NICU, making their presence especially important during these early weeks. But staying beside their son also means stepping away from work at a time when their family needs them most.

Jaylyn is a school teacher with only six weeks of maternity leave, while Logan has already used the vacation time available to him and does not have additional paid leave.

As the weeks in the hospital stretch on, the family is facing not only the emotional weight of having a premature newborn in intensive care, but also the financial strain that comes with being away from work.

Adding to their concerns, the hospital caring for Jettsen is outside their insurance network, leaving the family responsible for significant medical expenses now and in the months ahead.

“Right now, our only wish is for Jettsen to keep growing stronger,” the family said. “We just want to be there for him through every step of this journey and give him the best start we possibly can.”

For Logan and Jaylyn, these weeks may not be the beginning they imagined for their son. But each day Jettsen grows a little stronger is another reason for his family to hold onto hope.
