LITTLE ROWAN’S GRUELING HOSPITAL JOURNEY: 40 ANESTHESIA SESSIONS, 31 PROTON RADIATION TREATMENTS AND COUNTING

For a little boy, Rowan has already spent far too much of his childhood inside hospital walls.
Since June 9, his days have been filled with brain surgery, repeated anesthesia, proton radiation, scans, procedures and long nights away from home. He has undergone 40 rounds of anesthesia, 31 proton radiation treatments, four MRIs, a CT scan, a spinal tap, feeding-tube and line procedures, and hearing tests.
His family has also spent 34 nights away from home in New York City while Rowan completed his radiation treatment.
Recently, Rowan returned to the hospital for another MRI and anesthesia — and faced something completely new: his first port access.

It was an emotional moment for both Rowan and his dad.
“Watching your child go through another procedure is incredibly hard,” his family shared. “We wish we could take every uncomfortable moment away from him, but all we can do is stay beside him and remind him that he is never alone.”
His port was left accessed so Rowan could avoid going through the same process again when he returns to hospital on Wednesday — a small step that may spare him another difficult moment.
But there is little time to rest.

The family is now waiting anxiously for the results of Rowan’s latest MRI, hoping for encouraging news after everything he has endured. And on September 30, he is expected to begin chemotherapy, opening another challenging chapter in his treatment journey.
“We’re scared, but we’re also incredibly proud of him,” his family said. “Rowan has shown us a strength we never knew a child could have. We’re taking everything one day at a time.”
For Rowan, milestones that other children might never notice have become victories: finishing another treatment, getting through another procedure, waking up after anesthesia, or simply having a day that feels a little easier.
His family’s greatest hope is simple — that treatment will continue to move him forward and that, one day, hospital rooms will become memories rather than part of his everyday life.

“More than anything, we just want our little boy to have the chance to enjoy being a kid.”
After everything Rowan has faced since June 9, he still has a long road ahead. But he is not walking it alone.
His parents remain beside him through every scan, every treatment, every tear and every small victory — holding onto hope for the day when Rowan can finally trade hospital corridors for playgrounds, carefree afternoons and the childhood he deserves.
