Lizzie Velásquez A Young Woman Who Faced Online Cruelty and Turned Pain Into Unbreakable Strength

Lizzie Velasquez was born on March 13, 1989 in Texas, USA. From the moment she was born, she weighed only 2.1kg, and it was this short and low weight that made her look different from other children in the hospital.

Doctors diagnosed Velasquez with an extremely rare disease called Marfa, which causes her body to lose its ability to store fat, her face to be deformed, and her left eye permanently blind.

Even as an adult, Lizzie Velasquez weighs only 28kg.

Velasquez said that she has endured years of bullying because of her appearance like no other, she has been constantly given derogatory nicknames such as “skinny bones”, “old lady”, “the ugliest girl in the world” and even “monster”.

After a series of malicious jokes, Velasquez said she felt “couldn’t be more painful”. However, instead of being bored, she decided to stand up and defend herself.

“It was a long period of grief, then anger, I thought I needed to stand up and deal with this, I wanted to be the one to decide who I was in the eyes of people,” Velasquez said.

Velasquez began speaking out against the malicious comments, posting a feedback video about bullying on YouTube, after which, she began researching how to become a motivational speaker for others in similar circumstances.

In December 2013, Velasquez delivered an emotional and inspirational talk about her refusal to let her experiences of bullying define herself.

This video quickly became famous and created a huge global buzz. This “second fame” has created a big stepping stone to help her continue on her path.

Velasquez earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Texas State University and created her own YouTube channel, where she also constantly posts positive images of herself and her family and friends through volunteer trips and community activities.

At the age of 32, Lizzie Velasquez has achieved many great achievements, she has become an activist and speaker who travels to every corner of the world to tell the story of her life.

In addition, she is also a writer and actress in the film “Brave Hearts: The Story of Lizzie Velasquez,”. Currently, Lizzie Velasquez is the owner of a Youtube channel with nearly 1 million followers.

Recently, Velasquez’s image has once again been abused for malicious purposes on the social networking platform Tiktok due to the #FacetimePrank trend. However, this time, no longer a 17-year-old girl, Lizzie Velasquez quickly condemned and received countless support from everyone, this trend was also immediately erased.

“Being yourself is the best thing, I believe that being different will make you special, and that special thing will make you beautiful. This world needs different individuals, be yourself. It’s true, a simple and easy thing,” Lizzie Velasquez shared.
