Part 2: The Woman Who Saw Beyond the Giant

Part 2: The Woman Who Saw Beyond the Giant
Cade dropped to his knees beside Eleanor, shielding her from the wind with his massive body.

“Can you stand, ma’am?” he asked.

She shook her head, trembling uncontrollably.

Without hesitation, Cade wrapped her in his heavy coat and lifted her into his arms as gently as if she were a sleeping child.

For nearly two miles, he carried her through the raging storm.

When they finally reached his cabin, Eleanor was barely conscious.

Cade built a roaring fire, carefully examined her swollen ankle, and prepared warm broth from the little food he had stored for winter.

For three days, the storm trapped them together.

At first, Eleanor felt uncomfortable being alone with a man the town had spent years describing as frightening.

But every passing hour revealed something unexpected.

Cade spoke softly. He never entered her room without knocking. He patiently changed her bandages and slept beside the fireplace so she could have his bed.

One evening, Eleanor noticed dozens of beautifully carved wooden animals arranged along a shelf.

“Did you make these?” she asked.

Cade nodded.

“My mother taught me. Said these hands ought to make something beautiful instead of frightening people.”

Eleanor picked up a tiny wooden bird.

“Your hands don’t frighten me, Cade.”

He stared at her.

Nobody had ever said those words quite like that.

Over the following weeks, Eleanor returned to the cabin whenever she could. Friendship slowly became affection, and affection grew into something neither had expected.

When Cade finally confessed he loved her, he laughed nervously at the thought of becoming a husband, much less a father.

“Look at me, Eleanor. What kind of family could a giant like me possibly have?”

She placed his enormous hand against her cheek.

“The kind built with love.”

They married quietly that winter.

And months later, Eleanor stood trembling in their cabin doorway, holding a secret that would leave Cade speechless.

She was pregnant.

At 44, after years of believing motherhood was impossible, Eleanor was expecting their first child.

But the greatest surprise was still ahead.

Because when the town learned about her pregnancy, one man from Cade’s past returned with a warning that threatened everything they had built.
