Young Man Living With Congenital Conditions Faces Daily Challenges as Family Seeks Support

Erwin, a 27-year-old man, has lived with serious health conditions since birth, including congenital paralysis and hydrocephalus. At just 50 days old, he underwent surgery to place a drainage tube in his head to reduce pressure caused by excess cerebrospinal fluid. While the procedure was medically successful, his overall health continued to decline as he grew older.
According to his family, Erwin’s brain development and physical growth were significantly affected. His muscles remain rigid, limiting voluntary movement, and he relies on a wheelchair for mobility. Everyday activities that many take for granted require constant assistance, making long-term care an essential part of his life.

In addition to physical limitations, Erwin also struggles with inadequate nutritional intake, which plays a crucial role in maintaining his strength and overall well-being. Doctors have emphasized the importance of proper nutrition to help stabilize his condition and support his daily needs.
Financial hardship has placed additional strain on the family. His parents, Suwarti and her husband, operate a small roadside food stall that provides only a modest income. “We do everything we can, but it is often not enough,” Suwarti shared. “Most of what we earn goes toward daily expenses, and medical needs are becoming harder to manage.”

As medical and care-related costs continue to rise, the family has found it increasingly difficult to afford the treatments and nutritional support Erwin requires. Despite these challenges, they remain committed to providing the best care possible.
Community support has emerged as a source of hope. Through assistance from compassionate individuals, there is an opportunity to help cover essential living costs and provide the nutritional support Erwin needs to improve his quality of life. His family believes that with consistent care and adequate resources, Erwin can experience greater comfort and stability.

Erwin’s story highlights the ongoing challenges faced by families caring for individuals with long-term health conditions, as well as the impact that collective support can have. For his parents, even small acts of kindness offer reassurance that they are not facing this journey alone.
