Teen Driver Crashes Into 9-Year-Old Girl Playing in Front Yard and Leaves the Scene

A teenage driver struck a nine-year-old girl who was playing in her front yard before leaving the scene.

LaDerihanna Holmes was outside her home in Lithonia, Georgia with another girl around 7 p.m. on Friday when a car suddenly drove toward them.

Video footage shows the second girl running in one direction after noticing the approaching vehicle.

LaDerihanna ran the other way, but the black sedan went past a stop sign, mounted the curb, hit her and crashed into her home.

Security footage captured one of the two individuals leaving the area, exiting from the passenger side of the car and running across the front lawn as LaDerihanna’s family rushed to assist her.

LaDerihanna was taken to the hospital in serious condition. She suffered a head injury with cuts and a pelvic bone injury in three places, according to the family’s GoFundMe page.

Her heart valve was also affected. Chris Stewart, the family’s attorney, said it is remarkable that she survived.

“There is no explanation for how my client is alive,” he wrote on social media. “I sat with her and could hardly believe it. Though her recovery will take time, she is alive.”

The other girl who was playing in the yard was not hurt.

LaDerihanna’s family is sharing the security footage, hoping the driver will come forward.

Authorities said the registered owner of the vehicle told investigators she was at work at the time of the crash and had lent the car to her boyfriend.

Stewart said the boyfriend is believed to be in his thirties and that the two individuals who left the scene were both teenagers.

“Those were teenagers in that vehicle, so we need to determine what happened and how they gained access to that car,” he said.

Charlette Bolton, LaDerihanna’s mother, has issued a direct plea to the driver.

“You know what happened. You didn’t try to help my child,” she said. “You seriously injured my child, and I hope you do the right thing and come forward.”

Bolton said she is trying to stay strong for her daughter.

“I just want everyone to pray for LaDerihanna,” she said. “The community loves her, her school loves her, her friends love her. I just want those involved to be held accountable.”

“She’s strong, and I know she’ll recover from this. It’s just going to take time.”

Stewart said the footage of the crash shows how fortunate her survival was.

“I was shocked,” he said. “I handle serious injury cases regularly, and I cannot believe she made it through. When I visited her, she did not have visible injuries on her face.”

“The video is difficult to watch, but she survived. It truly feels like a miracle.”
