Iran’s ‘stunning strategic miscalculation’ could accelerate Gulf ties to Israel, ex-CENTCOM director predicts

Former U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) officials say Iran may have made a “stunning strategic miscalculation” by expanding attacks across the region, a move that could push Gulf Arab nations closer to diplomatic normalization with Israel.

According to retired CENTCOM communications director Joe Buccino, Iran’s missile and drone strikes — including attacks affecting Gulf states — have angered regional governments that previously tried to stay neutral. Analysts say shared security threats could accelerate cooperation between Israel and countries such as Bahrain, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.

Several Gulf nations reportedly intercepted Iranian projectiles and joined a joint statement with the United States condemning Tehran’s actions as reckless and dangerous to regional stability. Experts warn the shift could reshape Middle East alliances if Gulf states move toward deeper military or diplomatic ties with Israel.
Security analysts add that by targeting neighboring Arab countries, Iran risks drawing more regional players into the conflict — potentially strengthening anti-Iran cooperation rather than deterring it.
