Operation Epic Fury: U.S. Deploys B-52 Bombers to Dismantle Iranian Command and Control

WASHINGTON / DOHA – The military confrontation in the Middle East has reached a significant turning point as the United States intensifies “Operation Epic Fury,” a multi-front campaign aimed at neutralizing Iran’s strategic capabilities. In a major escalation, American B-52 Stratofortress heavy bombers have been deployed to conduct precision strikes on Iranian ballistic missile sites and high-level command headquarters, marking a shift toward crippling Tehran’s military leadership.
Strategic Heavy Airpower Unleashed Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), confirmed that long-range B-52 bombers targeted coordinated ballistic missile launch sites and operational command centers across Iran. Unlike earlier phases of the conflict that focused primarily on air defense systems and weapons storage, current operations are designed to paralyze the communication networks that coordinate large-scale missile barrages.
“The deployment of B-52s signifies the use of strategic heavy airpower to deliver massive, precision ordnance against hardened or dispersed military targets,” Admiral Cooper stated in a video released on March 3rd, 2026. This tactical shift aims to prevent Tehran from executing further strikes against regional partners and U.S. military installations.
Direct Engagement over Qatari Airspace The escalation follows an unprecedented aerial skirmish over Qatar. On March 2nd, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) dispatched two SU-24 tactical bombers toward Al Udeid Air Base—housing approximately 10,000 U.S. troops—and the critical Ras Laffan gas facility.
Reports indicate the Iranian aircraft were within two minutes of their targets, flying at low altitudes to evade radar detection. After failing to respond to radio warnings, the aircraft were intercepted and downed by Qatari F-15 fighters in what marks the first direct air combat engagement by the Qatari Air Force. Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani condemned the move as a dangerous attempt to “drag neighboring countries into a war not of their making.”
The Systematic Destruction of the Iranian Navy Simultaneously, U.S. naval and air forces have executed a systematic campaign to eliminate Iran’s maritime presence. Admiral Cooper reported that 17 Iranian vessels, including their most advanced submarine, have been destroyed or disabled. “Today, there is not a single Iranian ship operating in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, or the Gulf of Oman,” Cooper declared, adding that U.S. B-2 and B-1 bombers have faced virtually no resistance during these missions.
Regional Fallout and Civilian Impact Tehran has responded by launching over 500 ballistic missiles and 2,000 drones toward Gulf nations, leading to widespread disruption. While the majority of these munitions have been intercepted, debris has caused damage to civilian infrastructure in Dubai and Bahrain. In the UAE, schools have transitioned to online learning, and major corporations have been encouraged to allow remote work as airspaces remain volatile.
As Iran enters a period of national mourning for its late Supreme Leader, the IRGC has vowed continued retaliation. With over 50,000 U.S. troops and 200 combat aircraft now engaged in 24/7 operations, the region remains on a knife-edge, with the global community bracing for further escalation in what is becoming the largest concentration of military firepower in a generation.
