27 WEEKS, CHRONIC LUNG DISEASE, AND A FIGHT FOR EVERY BREATH — CARTER TURNED HER TINIEST START INTO A POWERFUL STORY OF SURVIVAL

Born far too early at just 27 weeks, baby Carter entered the world weighing only 640 grams and measuring just 28 cm — no bigger than many babies born at 23 weeks. From her very first breath, her life became a fight for survival.
Carter was immediately taken to the NICU, where doctors placed her on CPAP to support her fragile lungs. But her journey was anything but easy. Not long after, her lungs collapsed, and she required an urgent blood transfusion to stabilize her tiny body.

For her family, those first days were filled with fear and uncertainty.
“We were terrified,” her parents shared. “She was so small, so fragile… but even then, she showed us how strong she was.”
As the days turned into weeks, Carter continued to face one challenge after another. She briefly transitioned to high-flow oxygen, but after just nine hours, she had to return to CPAP. It was a heartbreaking setback — one of many along the way.

Still, Carter never stopped fighting.
Slowly, her condition began to improve. After a week on CPAP, she was once again given the chance to try high-flow oxygen — and this time, she held on longer. Soon after, she progressed to low-flow oxygen, marking a huge milestone in her recovery.
“It felt like every small step forward was a miracle,” her family said. “We learned to celebrate the little wins because each one meant she was still fighting.”

Even so, Carter’s journey was not without lasting effects. She developed chronic lung disease, meaning she would need continued oxygen support even after leaving the hospital. But for her family, that was a small price to pay.
“All we ever wanted was to bring her home,” they said. “No matter what it took.”
After weeks of intensive care, that moment finally came.

Today, Carter is a completely different baby. Now weighing 3.3 kg, she is growing stronger every day. At 8 weeks corrected age, she is reaching milestones that once felt impossible.
“She’s our little miracle,” her parents shared. “There were times we didn’t know if we’d get here, but she never gave up — and neither did we.”
Looking back, the journey through the NICU was filled with fear, hope, setbacks, and incredible resilience. Through it all, Carter proved that even the tiniest babies can carry the biggest strength.
