15 MINUTES TO BREATHE, COUNTLESS SURGERIES TO FOLLOW — BRODY’S FIGHT IS A STORY OF UNBREAKABLE STRENGTH

Brody entered the world already fighting for his life.

Instead of hearing joyful celebrations after his birth, his family watched as doctors rushed to save him. For 15 terrifying minutes, medical teams performed resuscitation as the tiny newborn struggled to take his first stable breaths.

And sadly, that was only the beginning of Brody’s journey.

In the months that followed, Brody endured more pain than most people face in a lifetime. He coded two more times, forcing doctors to bring him back again and again. His fragile body went through surgery after surgery — procedures for his tracheoesophageal fistula, heart catheterizations, open-heart surgery, feeding tube placement, trach surgery, and operations on his spit fistula so he could someday have a chance at a normal life.

While most babies spent their days learning to smile and sleep peacefully at home, Brody’s world became filled with hospital rooms, ventilators, scans, medications, and the constant sound of monitors tracking every heartbeat.

His tiny body battled pneumonia twice. Severe infections pushed him into septic shock, while other life-threatening complications tested his strength again and again.

“Brody has been through more than we ever imagined a child could endure,” his family shared. “But somehow, he keeps showing us how strong he is every single day.”

Through endless procedures, painful treatments, and countless sleepless nights, he continued to hold on. Every breath became a victory. Every small movement gave his family another reason to hope.

But amid the fear and uncertainty, there were still beautiful moments that reminded everyone why the fight mattered so much.

Brody’s big sister became one of his brightest sources of comfort. She loves climbing into bed beside him, singing “Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” and sharing little moments together that make the hospital room feel a little more like home.

“He watches everything she does,” the family shared. “Seeing them together melts our hearts. No matter how hard the days get, those moments give us strength.”

Now, Brody is preparing for yet another surgery — a revision on his spit fistula along with placement of a PICC line. Another operating room. Another difficult step in a journey that has already asked so much of such a tiny child.

Brody may be small, but his strength has already moved mountains.

“Brody has taught us what real courage looks like,” they said. “There were moments we were terrified of losing him, but he keeps showing us how strong he truly is.”
