Former FBI Agent Says Investigators Are Closing In on Nancy Guthrie ‘Porch Guy’ as Hope Grows for Major Breakthrough
A new development has renewed optimism in the investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, as a former FBI agent believes authorities are getting closer to identifying the mysterious masked individual known as the “porch guy.”
Speaking during an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show, retired FBI Special Agent Maureen O’Connell said she believes investigators are making significant progress in the case and suggested that an arrest could dramatically change the direction of the investigation.
Former FBI Agent Says Arrest Could Unlock the Entire Case
O’Connell told host Megyn Kelly that, based on information from her own sources, investigators appear to be “getting close” to the masked man who was captured on Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell camera shortly before she disappeared.
“I think they’re getting close to the porch guy,” O’Connell said. “And when they get the porch guy, the floodgates shall swing open.”
When Kelly asked how confident she was, the former FBI agent estimated her confidence level at approximately 75 percent, describing the investigation as moving steadily despite its slow pace.
Kelly responded by calling the update “huge” if it proves accurate.
Who Is the ‘Porch Guy’?
The unidentified suspect earned the nickname “porch guy” after surveillance footage showed a masked individual approaching Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson, Arizona, home during the early morning hours before her reported abduction.
The video allegedly shows the individual attempting to interfere with the home’s doorbell camera while carrying what appeared to be a backpack and flashlight.
Investigators have spent months analyzing the footage, examining physical characteristics, clothing, body movements, and forensic evidence in hopes of identifying the suspect. Despite numerous public appeals and thousands of tips, no arrest has yet been announced.
Law enforcement has never publicly confirmed the identity of the person seen in the footage.
Nancy Guthrie Has Been Missing for Nearly Five Months
Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson home on February 1, 2026. Authorities have treated the case as a kidnapping from the outset.
The investigation has generated national attention due to Nancy being the mother of NBC “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.
Since her disappearance, investigators have released surveillance images, analyzed DNA evidence, examined ransom communications, and pursued thousands of public tips while continuing to urge anyone with information to come forward.
Although reports have revealed disturbing details surrounding alleged ransom notes, officials have not confirmed that Nancy Guthrie has been found, and the investigation remains active.
Authorities Have Not Confirmed an Arrest
While O’Connell’s comments have fueled speculation that investigators may be nearing a breakthrough, law enforcement agencies have not publicly announced any arrests or identified the person known as the “porch guy.”
Former investigators note that major cases often move slowly because authorities must ensure they have sufficient evidence before making an arrest that can withstand court scrutiny.
For now, the identity of the masked individual remains unknown.
Investigation Continues
The latest comments have sparked renewed hope among those closely following the case. If investigators are able to identify and apprehend the individual seen on the surveillance footage, it could provide crucial answers about what happened to Nancy Guthrie and potentially reveal whether others were involved.
Until officials release confirmed information, however, the investigation remains ongoing, and many questions surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance remain unanswered.
