WEIGHING JUST 3KG AT ONE, LITTLE RUMI IS BATTLING BILIARY ATRESIA AND HEPATIC FIBROSIS AS HER FAMILY SELLS EVERYTHING TO KEEP HER FIGHT ALIVE

A one-year-old girl weighing only 3kg is fighting an extraordinary battle against two serious medical conditions that have affected her since birth, leaving her family desperately hoping for a brighter future.
Little Rumi has spent much of her young life undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with biliary atresia and hepatic fibrosis, two rare conditions that severely affect the liver and bile ducts.

While most toddlers her age are taking their first steps and exploring the world around them, Rumi’s childhood has been overshadowed by hospital visits, medical procedures, and ongoing health challenges.
Her condition became so severe that doctors had to create a surgical opening in her abdomen to help her body function properly because she could no longer pass stool normally.
For her family, watching such a tiny child endure so much has been heartbreaking.

“She should be spending her days playing and growing stronger,” a relative said. “Instead, she has had to fight challenges that no child should ever have to face.”
Doctors have explained that Rumi requires continuous medical care to help manage her condition and reduce the risk of further complications.
Biliary atresia, which was diagnosed early in her life, prevents bile from draining properly from the liver, causing progressive damage. At the same time, hepatic fibrosis has led to significant scarring of the liver, making it even harder for her body to function normally.
As the disease has progressed, the effects have become increasingly visible.

Despite being one year old, Rumi weighs only 3kg. Her family says her body has become extremely fragile, while her abdomen continues to grow larger due to her underlying medical problems.
Even meeting her daily nutritional needs remains difficult. At present, she relies mainly on formula milk and cereal as her family works closely with medical teams to support her growth.
The emotional and financial strain has also been immense.

Determined to help their daughter, the family has sold many of their possessions to cover medical expenses. Yet the cost of ongoing treatment continues to exceed what they can afford on their own.
“There are moments when we feel exhausted and afraid,” a family member admitted. “But then Rumi smiles at us, and we find the strength to keep going. She has already shown us what true courage looks like.”
