POLICE SAY AN INNOCENT DOG WAS PUT DOWN WHILE THE REAL π°πππ°π²πΊπ΄π REMAINED AT HOME IN A ππ·πΎπ²πΊπΈπ½πΆ CASE THAT SPARKED OUTRAGE

A heartbreaking case out of Summit, New Jersey, has left animal lovers shocked and saddened.
Authorities say 48-year-old Stephanie Jacobs has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty and perjury after investigators uncovered evidence suggesting that an innocent dog may have been surrendered and put down in place of the dog that actually carried out a fatal attack.
The case began in November 2025 when two pit bulls reportedly broke free and attacked a 70-year-old woman who was walking her small dog. The woman suffered serious injuries to her arms, hands, and legs, while her beloved pet later passed away from its injuries.

Following the incident, two dogs were surrendered to authorities and, after a court ruling in April 2026, were put down.
But months later, a witness came forward with information that changed everything.
Detectives reopened the investigation and reviewed surveillance footage, photos, and videos. According to police, they found probable cause that one of the surrendered dogs was not involved in the incident at all. Investigators allege the dog responsible was secretly switched out, allowing it to remain with its owner while another animal paid the price.
Police also say misleading statements were made during court proceedings regarding the identities of the dogs involved.

The dog believed to be the actual attacker, named βBlue,β has now been voluntarily surrendered and is being held pending further review.
Summit Police Chief Ryan Peters called the situation βheartbreaking,β saying an innocent animal may have lost its life while the responsible dog remained protected.
For many, this tragedy is not only about the victim and her beloved pet β it is also about a dog that may have been put down for something it never did.
