South Carolina Personal Trainer Found Dead After Mysterious Disappearance Police Called ‘Out of Character’

A tragic development has emerged in the case of a South Carolina personal trainer whose sudden disappearance captured national attention.

South Carolina personal trainer Elena Moore goes missing, last spotted walking toward wooded area

Authorities in Lexington, South Carolina, say a body matching the description of 39-year-old Elena Katherine Moore was discovered after an intensive multi-day search. Moore had been missing since June 11 after leaving a local gym, and investigators previously described her disappearance as “very out of character.”

Who Was Elena Moore?

Elena Katherine Moore was a personal trainer at Wolf’s Fitness Center in Lexington and also worked as a pharmacy technician. Friends and family described her as active, responsible, and deeply connected to her community.

According to investigators, Moore regularly visited a local Planet Fitness gym and maintained a predictable routine, making her sudden disappearance particularly concerning.

Last Known Movements Before Disappearance

Police say Moore signed into the Planet Fitness located on Whiteford Way in Lexington at approximately 6:40 p.m. on June 11.

Surveillance footage later showed her leaving the gym and walking toward a wooded area behind a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store. Additional video captured her walking through a Publix parking lot at approximately 9:17 p.m., heading toward Old Cherokee Road. That was the last confirmed sighting of Moore.

At the time, she was reportedly wearing an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants.

Police Called Disappearance “Out of Character”

As search efforts intensified, Lexington Police repeatedly emphasized that Moore’s disappearance was highly unusual.

“This is very out of character for her,” Lexington Police Inspector Missy Silcox told reporters as authorities searched wooded areas using drones and ground crews.

Investigators noted that Moore had not contacted friends or family, and there had been no activity indicating she intentionally left her normal life behind.

Search Effort Expanded Across Lexington

The search quickly expanded beyond the area surrounding the gym.

Law enforcement agencies, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), assisted local authorities in examining wooded terrain, nearby roads, and areas identified through public tips. Investigators also sought assistance from the public and reviewed surveillance footage from multiple locations.

Police initially reported no evidence of foul play and stated there was no indication Moore was in immediate danger, though they continued treating the case seriously because of the unusual circumstances.

Body Discovered During Investigation

On June 17, authorities announced that a body had been located in a wooded area near North Lake Road and Old Cherokee Road.

Police stated that the clothing found on the deceased matched what Moore had been wearing when she disappeared. At the time of the announcement, official identification was still pending confirmation from the coroner’s office.

Officials have since opened a death investigation while awaiting final forensic confirmation and a determination of the cause of death.

Unanswered Questions Remain

Investigators have not publicly released a cause of death, and authorities have not announced any arrests or identified any suspects.

Police continue to examine evidence, review surveillance footage, and determine what happened during the hours between Moore leaving the gym and the discovery of the body.

At this stage, officials have urged the public not to speculate while the investigation remains active.

Community Mourning Tragic Outcome

The discovery has devastated family members, friends, coworkers, and community members who had hoped Moore would be found alive.

As investigators continue working to establish exactly what happened, many in Lexington are mourning the loss of a woman described as energetic, hardworking, and dedicated to helping others improve their health and fitness.
