BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — The search for 15-year-old Ja’Derrius Minnieweather continues as law enforcement, volunteer rescue teams, and concerned community members work around the clock to locate the missing teenager, who has not been seen since early June.
Ja’Derrius was last seen on June 5 in Baton Rouge and is believed to have disappeared from an area locally known as “Ghost Town.” More than two weeks later, his family remains desperate for answers as search efforts expand across multiple locations throughout the city.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, Ja’Derrius is approximately five feet tall, weighs about 98 pounds, has brown eyes, and wears his hair in black and brown dreadlocks. Authorities say he was last seen wearing black sweatpants, a gray-and-black shirt, and red Nike slippers.
Volunteer Search Teams Join the Effort
As concern grows, the volunteer rescue organization known as the United Cajun Navy has joined the search, bringing more than 100 volunteers to assist in locating the missing teen. Search crews have combed through wooded areas, abandoned properties, canals, bridges, highways, riverbanks, and other locations identified through community tips.
Search coordinator Josh Gill said volunteers continue to evaluate new leads daily while working closely with investigators and the family. Teams have spent hours searching large sections of Baton Rouge, eliminating numerous areas while identifying new locations that require further examination.
Family members have remained actively involved in the search and have repeatedly appealed to the public for help. Relatives say Ja’Derrius is a family-oriented teenager who would not normally disappear without contacting loved ones, increasing fears that something may have happened to him.
Officials Plead for Public Assistance
Baton Rouge officials, including local leaders and police representatives, have publicly urged anyone with information to come forward. Authorities stress that even the smallest detail could prove crucial in determining what happened to the missing teenager.
Community support has continued to grow online, with thousands sharing missing-person alerts and offering prayers for the family. Search efforts have been fueled in part by tips from residents, many of whom have contacted investigators after seeing media reports about the case.
Investigation Remains Active
Investigators have confirmed that the case remains active and ongoing. While authorities have explored numerous leads, they have not publicly disclosed specific details regarding the circumstances surrounding Ja’Derrius’s disappearance.
Reports indicate that detectives have pursued multiple investigative avenues while continuing to coordinate with volunteer organizations conducting ground searches. Officials have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified rumors and instead report any potentially useful information directly to law enforcement.
As each day passes, concern continues to grow for the missing teenager’s safety. Family members, volunteers, and investigators remain committed to finding answers and bringing Ja’Derrius home.
