The bond between sisters is often described as unbreakable, and for little Margaret, that connection began long before her baby sister was finally ready to come home.

From the very beginning, Margaret has been Betts’ biggest supporter — eagerly waiting for the day she can share everyday moments with the little sister she already adores.

But Betts’ journey into the world was far from easy.

Born prematurely with a rare condition known as omphalocele, Betts arrived facing challenges that few newborns ever encounter. The condition caused some of her organs to develop outside of her abdomen, requiring immediate specialist care from the moment she was born.

Surrounded by worried family members and a dedicated medical team, Betts spent her earliest days in intensive care.

At one point, doctors placed her on ECMO, one of the most advanced forms of life support available, where she remained for ten days while specialists worked tirelessly to help her fragile body recover.

For her family, every day brought a mixture of hope, fear, and determination.

Yet throughout the difficult weeks, one thing never changed — Margaret’s excitement about becoming a big sister.

Whether through photos, visits, or stories shared by her parents, she continued cheering on her little sister as Betts fought her way forward.

Thanks to the expertise, dedication, and round-the-clock care provided by the NICU team, Betts has made remarkable progress and is now expected to make a full recovery.

Although her journey is not quite finished, the future looks brighter than ever.

Doctors plan for Betts to return to Children’s Hospital around her first birthday, where pediatric surgery specialists, led by Dr. Matthew Clifton, will perform a procedure to close her omphalocele.

For now, however, the family is celebrating a milestone they once only dreamed about — bringing their baby girl home.

And perhaps no one is happier than Margaret.

After months of waiting, she is finally preparing to welcome her little sister into the life they will share together, creating memories that neither of them will ever forget.
