Three Notorious Murderers Handed Whole Life Terms After Brutal Prison Killing of Child Killer at HMP Wakefield

Three Dangerous Inmates Given Whole Life Terms Following Brutal Prison Attack
Three of Britain’s most notorious prisoners have been handed whole life sentences after carrying out a deadly attack on convicted child killer Kyle Bevan inside HMP Wakefield, one of the United Kingdom’s most secure prisons.
The attack, which lasted approximately five minutes, saw gangland assassin Mark Fellows, convicted murderer Lee Newell, and fellow inmate David Taylor force their way into Bevan’s prison cell before launching a violent assault. Prosecutors said Bevan was stabbed and slashed more than 25 times using makeshift weapons fashioned from prison materials.
The incident has drawn national attention due to the violent nature of the killing and the criminal histories of the men involved.
Who Was Kyle Bevan?
Kyle Bevan was serving a life sentence for the murder of two-year-old Lola James, the daughter of his former partner. The case shocked the United Kingdom and led to widespread public outrage.
Because of the nature of his crime, Bevan was considered particularly vulnerable within the prison system, where offenders convicted of crimes against children often face threats from other inmates.
According to court proceedings, Bevan became the target of a carefully planned attack carried out by fellow prisoners already serving some of the harshest sentences in the country.
Attack Planned Inside Maximum-Security Prison
Investigators revealed that Fellows, Newell, and Taylor entered Bevan’s cell before attacking him with homemade weapons. One weapon was reportedly created from metal removed from the back of a prison television.
The attackers repeatedly stabbed and slashed Bevan before arranging his body in bed to make it appear that he was asleep, prosecutors told the court.
During a subsequent search of David Taylor’s cell, prison officers allegedly discovered additional improvised weapons concealed inside a bottle of chili sauce.
The brutality of the attack has prompted renewed scrutiny of prison security measures at HMP Wakefield, often referred to as the UK’s “Monster Mansion” due to the high-profile offenders housed there.

David Taylor’s Additional Murder Conviction
The case took an even darker turn after details emerged regarding David Taylor’s involvement in another murder investigation.
At the time of Bevan’s killing, Taylor was being held on remand awaiting trial for the murder of 24-year-old Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin, who disappeared after traveling from Manchester to Durham in 2022.
Although Taylor initially denied any involvement, he later admitted responsibility for her murder shortly before his scheduled trial. However, authorities say he has never revealed how she died or where her body was disposed of.
The lack of answers has continued to cause anguish for the victim’s family as investigators seek further information.
Court Hands Down Additional Whole Life Orders
At Leeds Crown Court, judges imposed new whole life orders on Mark Fellows and Lee Newell for their roles in Bevan’s murder.
Both men were already serving whole life sentences for previous murders, meaning they will never be eligible for release.
David Taylor also received a whole life order for the murder of Kyle Bevan, the murder of Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin, and the attempted murder of a police officer.
The court described the crimes as exceptionally serious, warranting the most severe punishment available under English law.
Prison Murder Raises Security Concerns
The killing has reignited debate about violence inside Britain’s highest-security prisons and how dangerous offenders continue to obtain and manufacture weapons behind bars.
Questions remain about how the attack was planned and carried out within a facility specifically designed to house some of the country’s most dangerous criminals.
For the families of the victims involved, the court’s decision brings a measure of justice, though many questions surrounding the crimes remain unanswered.
