15-Year-Old Spectator Dies Following Tragic Donegal International Rally Crash

Authorities in Ireland are continuing their investigation into the fatal incident at the Donegal International Rally that claimed the life of a 15-year-old spectator, as investigators work to determine exactly how the competing rally car left the course.

The victim has been identified as Tadhg Callaghan Carter, who died after a participating vehicle crashed into a hedge where spectators had gathered during the Gartan stage of the rally near Trentagh, close to Kilmacrennan, County Donegal. Emergency services responded shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, but despite being rushed to Letterkenny University Hospital, the teenager was later pronounced dead.

Investigation Focuses on Vehicle’s Path

Investigators from An Garda Síochána and Motorsport Ireland are conducting a full examination of the crash scene, including the path taken by the rally car before it struck the area where spectators were standing.

Authorities have preserved the scene for technical analysis and are reviewing witness statements, photographs, and video footage submitted by members of the public. Gardaí have urged anyone who attended the rally and captured footage of the incident to come forward to assist investigators.

Officials have not yet announced what caused the competing vehicle to leave the road, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Two Other Spectators Injured

In addition to the fatality, two other spectators sustained injuries during the incident. Both were transported to hospital, where authorities confirmed their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The identities of the injured spectators have not been publicly released.

Following confirmation of the teenager’s death, organizers from the Donegal Motor Club and Motorsport Ireland made the decision to cancel the remainder of the Donegal International Rally as a mark of respect.
