19-Year-Old Saving Money for College Dies After Car Crashes into Bakery Where She Worked

A tragic accident in Texas claimed the life of 19-year-old Zion Branch, who was struck and killed when a car crashed into the entrance of the Nothing Bundt Cakes bakery where she worked.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 30, around 3:11 p.m. local time, at the bakery located on 19250 W Lake Houston Parkway in Atascocita. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, a 77-year-old driver was attempting to park when his foot slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator, causing his vehicle to strike the front of the building.

At the time of the crash, three people were inside the bakery, including Branch. She was found with no signs of life at the scene due to the injuries she sustained. The driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of intoxication. A customer was also injured and transported to the hospital. The sheriff’s vehicular crimes division is investigating the incident.

Branch had recently graduated from Sconzo Early College High School and had only been working at the bakery for a short time. She was saving money to attend college as a junior in the fall, according to relatives.

Nothing Bundt Cakes released a statement expressing deep sorrow:

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our Joy Creators at our Atascocita bakery. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the team member’s family, those who were injured, loved ones, bakery owners, team members, and everyone impacted by this tragedy during this incredibly difficult time. We are cooperating fully with local authorities… The bakery is currently closed as we prioritize supporting our team.”

Harris County Sheriff’s Office Major Anthony McConnell described the situation as “terrible,” asking the community to pray for the families affected, noting that “a lot of people here… their lives changed.”

This heartbreaking story highlights the sudden and devastating impact such accidents can have on young lives full of promise. Our condolences go out to Zion Branch’s family, friends, and colleagues.
