Brooke Hanlon, a 35-year-old licensed psychotherapist and new mother, was brutally stabbed to death inside her home in Chester, New Jersey, on June 6, 2026. The shocking murder occurred in broad daylight at around 4:30 p.m., and more than a month later, no suspects have been identified or arrested.

A 911 call was made from the home, where first responders found Brooke in cardiac arrest with a large laceration to her chest. The Morris County Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide caused by multiple sharp force injuries.

A Loving Mother and Dedicated Professional

Brooke had recently welcomed her first child, a daughter, in July 2025 with her husband, James “Conor” Hanlon. The couple had moved back to Brooke’s hometown in New Jersey in 2023 after living in Massachusetts for nearly a decade, where they met while Brooke was pursuing her master’s degree in clinical psychology at Northeastern University. She had previously attended Wake Forest University.

According to a family member who spoke with People, Brooke’s daughter is now being cared for by family. The home where the murder took place appeared largely untouched afterward, with the couple’s cars initially remaining parked outside and curtains unmoved for weeks. One of the cars has since been removed.

Ongoing Investigation

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO), Chester Township Police Department, and Morris County Sheriff’s Office CSI are actively investigating the case. Authorities have released limited details but are now publicly appealing for information.

They are specifically asking anyone with details about Brooke Hanlon’s death or suspicious activity near Pottersville Road on June 6 to come forward. A $1,000 reward is being offered through the Morris County Crimestoppers hotline (973-COP-CALL).

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” the prosecutor’s office stated.

As of now, the motive and identity of the killer are still unknown, leaving the quiet New Jersey suburb shaken and the family searching for answers in this heartbreaking unsolved case.
