MUM’S JOY AS BRAVE LITTLE GIRL WHO LOST ALL OF HER π»πΈπΌπ±π TO MENINGITIS TAKES FIRST STEPS ON PROSTHETIC LEGS

A heartwarming video has captured a mum’s emotional reaction as her brave little girl – who lost all of her limbs after meningitis – takes her first steps on prosthetic legs.
Harmonie-Rose Allen was just 11 months old when she was affected by a rare strain of the disease, which almost claimed her life.
She was given just a 10 percent chance of survival and doctors had to remove her legs and arms to give her the best chance of living.
Harmonie was fitted with prosthetic limbs and has spent nearly two years mastering how to use them.

Harmonie’s mum Freya said her daughter asked for the prosthetic legs to be decorated with unicorns “because they are magic and will help me walk”.
Now three years old, a video has captured the youngster taking her first unaided steps in the living room of her home in Bath, Somerset, as mum Freya screams with joy.
The legs, bought from Dorset Orthopaedics, were paid for by almost 2,000 supporters of the Hope 4 Harmonie campaign.
Freya wrote: “It has been just over two weeks since we bought new legs from Dorset Orthopaedics with money from the Hope for Harmonie fund, donated by all of you.
“She has done it. Our princess has done it. Just this morning. She has walked on her brand new pair of legs.

“WOW she has amazed us. We are so proud of her and cannot believe we can finally say she can walk!
“Every day she shows us that nothing is impossible. She’s our inspirational, determined, little warrior.
“We are so proud of you Harmonie. We love you.
“Keep hoping for Harmonie. It’s working.”
Freya added: “We are so thankful because without these donations we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
Freya and partner Ross first noticed something was wrong when Harmonie-Rose, their only child, woke in the night coughing and struggling to breathe.
They took her to the Royal United Hospital in Bath but doctors could not find anything seriously wrong and sent her back home.

The next morning the little girl had turned blue and her parents took her back to the same hospital.
She was thoroughly assessed but doctors diagnosed “a virus” and again sent her home.
Hours later Harmonie-Rose became extremely weak and exhausted and was rushed back to the hospital where a purple rash was noticed.
She was then transferred by ambulance to the specialist unit at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
By the time she arrived at the intensive care unit her arms and legs had become severely damaged.
Freya, a full-time mum, added: “Every time we looked at Harmonie she was becoming covered with more purple marks.
“Harmonie was then taken to intensive care and we did not hear from the medical team until about four hours later.

“When we walked in to see Harmonie I could hardly believe what I was seeing.
She was asleep and was more covered in the rash than before. That was when we realised how serious it was.
“The doctors told us she would lose the tip of her nose, and that was only if she survived.”
As Harmonie-Rose continued fighting for her life, doctors then gave her parents the heartbreaking news that the infection had spread so quickly she was going to lose both arms and legs.
The infection had severely damaged the tissue in her limbs and they had to be removed to save her life.
Harmonie-Rose underwent dozens of operations to reach where she is today, and Freya hopes her daughter will continue to grow stronger every day.
