ANGELICA BROPHY REMAINS MISSING AS HUMAN REMAINS FOUND NEAR PALOMAR MOUNTAIN ARE RULED OUT

The search for 44-year-old Angelica Brophy, an Oceanside emergency-room nurse and mother of two, continues more than six weeks after she disappeared in Southern California.

Brophy was last seen on July 6, 2026. Investigators say she was at Harrah’s Resort in Valley Center around 3:30 p.m. before entering Palomar Mountain State Park roughly 50 minutes later. Her vehicle was discovered abandoned in the park on July 9.

On August 12, a volunteer search-and-rescue team discovered human remains in an embankment near South Grade Road in Pauma Valley, close to Palomar Mountain.

For a moment, the discovery appeared potentially connected to the search for Brophy.

But authorities quickly emphasized that the remains are not believed to be Angelica Brophy. Investigators are working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the identity and cause of death.

The remains were found several miles from the area where Brophy’s vehicle was located. Officials have not established any connection between the remains and Brophy’s disappearance.

A DISAPPEARANCE THAT HAS LEFT HER FAMILY SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS

Brophy was reported missing after she failed to return as expected to pick up her daughter from summer camp.

She also failed to appear for a scheduled overnight shift at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Marcos.

Her abandoned vehicle was eventually found in the Palomar Mountain State Park parking area.

Search teams subsequently combed the rugged terrain, including steep canyons and dense vegetation. Multiple agencies participated, including the San Diego County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, California State Parks and other specialized teams. Divers also searched a nearby pond but found no sign of her.

Despite the circumstances surrounding the disappearance, Oceanside Police Chief Taurino Valdovinos previously said there was no evidence of foul play at that point in the investigation.

Detectives have continued pursuing newly developed leads and conducted additional searches based on investigative information.

That distinction is important: Brophy remains missing, but authorities have not publicly established that a crime occurred.

Her family and friends, meanwhile, have continued searching and asking the public for information.

A family-run website dedicated to the search says Brophy was last known to be at Palomar Mountain State Park and describes her as an experienced hiker and runner who frequently visited the area.
