The Blind Side’s Quinton Aaron Woke From a Coma — Then Someone Showed Him Documents About His Wife He Says He Never Knew Existed

Quinton Aaron was already fighting through one of the most frightening health crises of his life when another shock arrived.

The actor, best known for playing Michael Oher in the 2009 film The Blind Side, suffered a serious medical emergency in January 2026 and fell into a coma.

When he eventually woke up, he began the difficult process of recovery.

Then, according to Aaron, someone showed him legal documents involving the woman he had married just over a year earlier.

What he says he learned changed everything.

Aaron claims that Margarita DeLeon, whom he married in December 2024, was still legally married to another man from a marriage dating back to 1992. He says he had no idea about the earlier marriage when they exchanged vows.

Now, as he works to regain his strength physically, Aaron says that relationship is over.

He has not spoken to DeLeon, he says, and he does not plan to reconcile.

A Medical Crisis Came First

Aaron’s ordeal began with a major health scare early this year.

The 42-year-old actor was hospitalized after suffering what he has described as a stroke-related medical emergency.

His condition became severe enough that he fell into a coma.

For an actor whose public life had largely centered on film roles and appearances, the experience suddenly narrowed everything down to survival.

Aaron later spoke about just how serious the situation was, saying he came close to dying.

When he woke up, the immediate challenge was physical recovery.

He had to confront weakness, limited mobility and the uncertainty of how much function he might regain.

But while he was still trying to understand what had happened to his body, his personal life was about to become just as complicated.

Then Came the Documents

Aaron said that while he was hospitalized, he was shown documents indicating that DeLeon had never legally ended a previous marriage.

According to his account, she had been married to another man since 1992.

That meant Aaron’s December 2024 wedding may not have created the legal marriage he believed it did.

Aaron insists he did not know.

He says he entered the relationship and wedding believing DeLeon was free to marry him.

The revelation left him stunned.

“I was under the impression that she was divorced,” he told Us Weekly.

From his perspective, the issue was not simply legal.

It was about trust.

He believed he knew the person he had married.

Then, during one of the most vulnerable periods of his life, he was confronted with paperwork suggesting there was a major part of her marital history he had never been told about.

Aaron Says They No Longer Speak

After learning about the alleged existing marriage, Aaron says contact between him and DeLeon ended.

He has said they have not spoken since.

When asked whether there was any chance of rebuilding the relationship, Aaron was clear that he is not interested in doing so.

The actor told PEOPLE that he has no plans to reconnect romantically.

That makes the split sound less like a temporary separation and more like a final decision.

For Aaron, the discovery appears to have created a line he does not want to cross again.

Whatever emotional bond existed before the hospitalization, he now says the relationship is finished.

The Marriage Had Lasted Only a Little Over a Year

Aaron and DeLeon married in December 2024.

At the time, there was no public indication that the union would unravel in such an unusual way.

The actor had already lived much of his adult life in the public eye after The Blind Side turned him into a recognizable face.

But this was not a Hollywood breakup driven by rumors of infidelity, career pressure or a long period of public conflict.

According to Aaron, the central issue was a fact he says he did not know when he said “I do.”

If DeLeon was still legally married to someone else, it raises questions not only about the emotional relationship but also about the legal status of Aaron’s own marriage.

He has not suggested that he wants to salvage it.

Instead, he appears focused on moving forward.

His Recovery Has Become the Priority

The personal shock is only one part of Aaron’s current life.

The other is rehabilitation.

He has continued to speak publicly about his physical recovery and his hope that he will walk again.

That optimism matters because his medical crisis left him facing major mobility challenges.

Aaron has said he believes he can regain more function with time and therapy.

He has also emphasized how grateful he is simply to be alive.

For someone who survived a coma and a near-fatal medical episode, the scale of his priorities has changed.

He is now focused on rebuilding his strength, protecting his peace and continuing the work needed to become more independent again.

In that context, the collapse of his marriage is painful, but it is not the only battle he is fighting.

A Career Defined by One Famous Role

Aaron became widely known after starring opposite Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side.

The film told the story of Michael Oher and the Tuohy family and became a major box-office success.

Bullock won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance.

Aaron’s portrayal of Oher made him instantly recognizable, even though he was relatively early in his career at the time.

In the years since, he has continued acting in film and television.

But his latest headlines have had nothing to do with Hollywood.

Instead, they center on survival, recovery and the unraveling of a marriage he says was built on information he did not have.

Two Crises, One After the Other

What makes Aaron’s story so striking is the timing.

He did not discover the alleged marital issue during an ordinary period in his life.

He says it happened while he was hospitalized and recovering from a coma.

That means two separate crises collided at once.

His body had failed him.

Then his understanding of his marriage was shaken.

There was no clean separation between one problem and the next.

He was trying to regain physical strength while also processing a deeply personal betrayal, at least from his point of view.

That combination would be difficult for anyone.

Aaron has chosen to speak openly about both.

He Says He Is Looking Forward, Not Back

Despite everything that happened, Aaron’s recent comments have focused heavily on hope.

He has acknowledged the shock of what he learned.

He has made clear that he does not plan to resume the relationship.

But he has also repeatedly returned to the future.

He wants to recover.

He wants to walk again.

He wants to regain control over his life after months when so much felt outside his control.

That may be the most important part of his current chapter.

The legal documents changed how he saw his marriage.

The coma changed how he saw everything else.

For now, Aaron says the relationship is over.

His recovery is not.

He still believes there is more progress ahead.

And after nearly losing his life, that is the future he appears most determined to fight for.
