NANCY GUTHRIE: 200 DAYS MISSING — THE SEARCH HAS REACHED A DISTURBING MILESTONE
More than 200 days have passed since 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Arizona home.
Nancy was last seen on January 31, and authorities believe she was taken from her Catalina Foothills home in the early hours of February 1. Investigators have released footage of a person they believe may be connected to the abduction, but no suspect has been publicly identified or arrested.
TWO DISTURBING RANSOM NOTES
In late July, authorities released two ransom notes that had been sent to a Tucson television station after Nancy disappeared.
One claimed Nancy was being held for ransom and demanded millions of dollars.
The second contained a far more disturbing claim — that Nancy had already lost her life and had been “buried in nature.”
Authorities have not confirmed whether either note was genuinely written by Nancy’s abductors. Investigators released them in the hope that someone might recognize the language or handwriting and provide a lead.
THE DNA CLUE THAT DIDN’T LEAD TO A SUSPECT
Investigators also examined a hair recovered from Nancy’s home.
The forensic testing ultimately produced no usable result and did not identify a suspect, according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos. Authorities continue to work with laboratories on additional DNA evidence.
HUMAN REMAINS FOUND — BUT NOT LINKED TO NANCY
A potentially shocking development came this month when human remains were discovered in a desert area approximately 15 miles from Nancy’s home.
However, authorities have stressed that there is currently no indication the remains are connected to Nancy’s disappearance. The remains appeared to have been at the location for an extended period.
That means the discovery has not provided a confirmed breakthrough in Nancy’s case.
200 DAYS — AND STILL NO ANSWER
Nancy’s family continues to wait for information about what happened to her.
Her disappearance remains an active investigation, with the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department continuing to examine evidence and pursue leads.
The most haunting questions remain:
Who entered Nancy Guthrie’s home?
Where was she taken?
And who wrote the ransom notes?
After 200 days, Nancy’s whereabouts remain unknown — and investigators are still searching for the breakthrough that could finally explain what happened.
