Jennifer Keen, 27, was killed after a Tesla veered into a pedestrian area and crashed into the frontage of a restaurant in eastern Melbourne.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. on August 24, 2026, outside Westfield Knox in Wantirna South.

Keen was reportedly on her lunch break and standing near a pedestrian crossing when the Tesla suddenly veered into the area before crashing into the front of Martini+Co. Bystanders and emergency responders attempted to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Keen worked at a nearby customer service center, with her office located only about 100 meters from where the crash occurred.

Her colleagues described her as “sweet,” cheerful, and a “kind soul.” She was also known for her interest in anime and cosplay, according to reports from those who knew her.

The Tesla driver, a woman reportedly between 51 and 55 years old, and a passenger were both taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the crash is not suspected to have been deliberate. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including what caused the Tesla to veer into the pedestrian area.
