A LIFE CHANGING PROMISE: THE SOLDIER WHO NEVER GAVE UP ON A LITTLE BOY

In 2003, while serving as a British peacekeeper in Bosnia, Wayne Ingram encountered four-year-old Stefan Savic. The young boy was born with a rare, severe facial cleft that directly threatened both his eyesight and his life. Long after completing his military service and returning home, Ingram found himself unable to forget Stefan’s situation. Driven by deep compassion, he transformed his empathy into a dedicated 13-year fundraising mission aimed at securing the boy a chance at a normal, healthy life.

Ingram poured immense effort into bringing this goal to reality. He organized local community events, arranged fundraising football matches, and even undertook an extraordinary physical challenge: completing a 76-mile backward walk across Dorset to raise public awareness and support. Through these tireless efforts, he successfully raised over $215,000. These funds enabled Stefan to undergo five major transformative surgeries, including critical procedures performed free of charge at Great Ormond Street Hospital by renowned plastic surgeon Professor David Dunaway.

Today, Stefan is 27 years old, happily married, and thriving as a musician in a folk band. What began as a brief chance encounter between a soldier on deployment and a vulnerable young boy evolved into a lifelong friendship rooted in an unshakeable promise. Their incredible journey stands as a powerful testament to human generosity, proving that a single person’s unwavering commitment really can change everything.
