8-Year-Old Camp Mystic Flood Victim Honored Posthumously as 2026 ASPCA Kid of the Year

Eloise “Lulu” Peck, an 8-year-old girl who lost her life in the devastating flood at Camp Mystic in Texas on July 4, 2025, is being remembered for the extraordinary love she showed toward animals.

Lulu had a special affection for dogs and was known for finding joy in caring for animals. Her family remembers how she once ran a lemonade stand with a heartfelt sign that read, “Lemonade is $5. Dogs Drink Free.”

One of Lulu’s closest companions was Ollie, a Boston Terrier who shared a special bond with the young girl.

After Lulu’s death, her mother, Missy Rogers Peck, found comfort in imagining her daughter reunited with Ollie and other beloved pets in heaven. She affectionately began calling Lulu the “CEO of Dogs in Heaven,” a loving family nickname created in Lulu’s memory—not an official title.

Lulu’s compassion for animals has continued to inspire her family. In her honor, they established the Living for Lulu Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping animals and children in need while carrying forward the values of kindness and love that defined her young life.

That legacy has now received national recognition.

The ASPCA has selected Lulu as the recipient of the 2026 ASPCA Kid of the Year Award, honoring her posthumously for the impact of her love for animals and the inspiration she continues to provide.

Lulu’s family is scheduled to accept the award on her behalf during the 2026 Humane Awards ceremony on October 8, 2026, at The Plaza in New York City.

Though Lulu’s life was tragically cut short, her family hopes her story will continue to encourage others—especially children—to show compassion toward animals and people in need.
