HEARTBROKEN FAMILY PAYS TRIBUTE TO ‘WONDERFUL’ 12-YEAR-OLD BOY KILLED IN TRAIN CRASH

A family’s world has been shattered after their 12-year-old son died when the car he was travelling in was struck by a train at a level crossing in Ireland.

Eoin Doyle was killed in the devastating collision near Kiltybo, close to Ballyhaunis in Co. Mayo, on Thursday evening, September 3.

Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 8:45 p.m., but the young boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eoin had been travelling in the car with his father, Declan, after returning from GAA training.

His father was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The train, which was travelling from Dublin to Westport, was carrying passengers, but no injuries were reported among those on board.

‘A WONDERFUL YOUNG BOY’

The news has left Eoin’s family, school and wider community devastated.

His school principal, Shane Morgan, described him as a talented artist and athlete who loved music, saying he was a friendly and kind child with a smile that was rarely far away.

Eoin was a sixth-class pupil at Cloonfad National School and was also involved with Ballyhaunis GAA and Ballyhaunis Golf Club.

His sporting community remembered him as a talented young footballer and a much-loved member of the club.

The sudden loss has sent shockwaves through the local community, where friends, teammates and teachers are now facing the unimaginable reality of saying goodbye to a child described as full of talent and promise.

A FAMILY LEFT HEARTBROKEN

Eoin’s death notice described him as being deeply mourned by his parents, his twin sister, step-brother, grandparents, extended family and friends.

The family is now preparing to lay their beloved son to rest.

The collision happened at a user-operated level crossing, and authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Investigators have appealed for witnesses and anyone with relevant dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision to come forward.

For those who knew Eoin, however, the tragedy is about more than the circumstances of one terrible night.

It is about a 12-year-old boy whose life was suddenly cut short.

A son.

A twin brother.

A student.

A teammate.

And, above all, a much-loved young boy whose family will now have to face life without him.
