Her brother, Patrick Peralta, told reporters that she had experienced serious psychiatric difficulties but appeared to have become much more stable in recent years while receiving treatment.

On August 31, police said Pamela allegedly attacked two strangers in one of New York City’s busiest areas.

The victims were 68-year-old Tak Kam and 32-year-old Erin Piacenti.

Piacenti, a Bank of America vice president and new mother, died from her injuries.

Kam survived.

Police later confronted Pamela, who was allegedly armed with two knives. Officers repeatedly ordered her to drop them, and after attempts to stop her with Tasers failed, two officers fired their weapons.

Pamela was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she died.

Authorities described the stabbing as random and unprovoked and said there was no indication it was terrorism-related. 
