“IT’S COMPLETELY OUT OF CHARACTER” — MASSIVE SEARCH ENTERS FIFTH DAY FOR 31-YEAR-OLD MAN WHO VANISHED INTO AUSTRALIAN RAINFOREST

Ariel Simon, a 31-year-old Rainforest Rescue employee, was last seen walking into bushland near Cape Tribulation Road. Five days later, police, SES volunteers, helicopters and local residents are still searching for him.

A massive search for a 31-year-old man who disappeared after walking into rainforest near Australia’s Daintree region has entered its fifth day, as his family and colleagues continue to fear for his safety.

Ariel Simon, who works for rainforest conservation organisation Rainforest Rescue, was last seen at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 7, entering bushland near Cape Tribulation Road in Cow Bay, Queensland.

He did not return.

Police were alerted later that afternoon and launched a search-and-rescue operation involving officers, State Emergency Service volunteers, helicopters and members of the local community.

A DISAPPEARANCE THAT HAS LEFT HIS FAMILY DEEPLY WORRIED

Authorities and Ariel’s family have described his disappearance as highly out of character.

Those who know him say he is experienced in the bush and familiar with the rugged environment surrounding the Daintree.

Rainforest Rescue chief executive officer Brandon Barber said the organisation was deeply concerned for Ariel and grateful to the emergency crews involved in the search.

“He certainly knows the country,” local resident David Pinson said, describing Ariel as someone who is well-liked in the community.

But despite his experience outdoors, the search has continued for days with no confirmed sighting.

HIS LAST KNOWN MOVEMENTS

Police say Ariel was seen entering bushland near Cape Tribulation Road at approximately 1:30 p.m. on September 7.

The alarm was raised when he failed to return.

Search teams have since been working across a challenging area of rainforest and bushland.

Police, SES volunteers, the Rescue 510 helicopter and POLAIR have all been involved, while local residents have also joined efforts to locate him.

On Thursday, POLAIR was seen circling parts of the bushland as ground teams continued their search.

A SHORT MESSAGE THE DAY BEFORE

One detail has also drawn attention.

The day before he disappeared, Ariel posted a brief message on Facebook.

It read:

“Good morning! Sending love. Peace out.”

There is no indication that the message explains what happened afterward, and authorities have not suggested that it was connected to his disappearance.

For now, investigators are focused on locating Ariel and establishing where he went after entering the bushland.

HE IS DISTINCTIVE AND COULD BE EASILY RECOGNISED

Police describe Ariel as:

• 31 years old
• Caucasian
• Approximately 210cm tall
• Slim build
• Long blonde hair

His distinctive appearance means police are urging anyone who may have seen him in the Cow Bay area or surrounding bushland to come forward.

THE RAINFOREST SEARCH CONTINUES

Cow Bay sits within the wider Daintree region, an area known for dense rainforest and rugged terrain.

Search crews have been working both on the ground and from the air, while locals continue to watch for any sign of Ariel.

David Pinson said weather conditions had remained relatively mild, which he described as potentially helpful for Ariel if he remained outdoors.

He also suggested there was a possibility that Ariel might not realise people were searching for him.

But every passing day increases the urgency of the operation.

POLICE APPEAL FOR INFORMATION

Queensland Police are asking anyone who may have information about Ariel’s whereabouts to contact Policelink on 131 444.

Anyone who believes someone is in immediate danger should call Triple Zero (000).

At this stage, there has been no confirmation of what happened to Ariel after he entered the bushland.

There is also no official indication that he has been injured or that a crime has occurred.

The search remains active.

Ariel walked into the Australian rainforest on Monday afternoon and never returned. Five days later, helicopters are still circling, search teams are still moving through the bush, and a community is still hoping for one thing — that Ariel Simon will be found.
