BABY GRACIE’S INCREDIBLE FIGHT: FROM A RARE IMMUNE DISORDER TO A LIFE-CHANGING TRANSPLANT

Sweet baby Gracie was born in January, but her family’s joy quickly turned into a long and difficult medical journey.
She was diagnosed with Primary HLH, a rare and serious immune disorder for which a bone marrow transplant offered her best chance of recovery. Before reaching that point, Gracie endured powerful treatments, chemotherapy, two stays in the Pediatric ICU, a serious blood clot affecting her brain, and countless difficult days in hospital.

Her journey became even harder when her family had to move to another state so she could receive the specialized care she needed. At home, her two-year-old big brother Jackson — who had bravely overcome HLH himself— became one of her biggest little cheerleaders.
Then came another frightening chapter.

Two days before her transplant, Gracie tested positive for COVID. Soon afterward, her condition changed dramatically. She required VA ECMO to support her lungs, while doctors also treated severe pulmonary hypertension, inflammation and fluid overload. Dialysis was added as her medical team worked tirelessly to give her body the rest it needed.

Yet Gracie kept holding on.
On July 23, she finally received her bone marrow transplant. Her family celebrated the milestone while knowing there was still a long road ahead. The days that followed brought exhaustion and difficult side effects from treatment, but her new cells were beginning their journey toward rebuilding her immune system.

“We have watched our little girl go through more than anyone should ever have to,” her family shared. “But Gracie continues to show us a strength we never knew was possible.”

Even when she was too tired to do much, her family stayed beside her, taking every small improvement as a reason to hope.
“We’re scared, we’re exhausted, and there are moments when we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. But we will keep showing up for her, every single day.”

Gracie’s journey has not been an easy one. From the earliest days of her life to intensive treatments, hospital stays and her transplant, she has faced challenge after challenge.

But surrounded by her family’s love, this tiny girl continues to fight forward — one day, one breath and one hopeful milestone at a time.
