Little Sophia Sandoval The Brave Wonder Girl Who Proved Strength Comes in the Smallest Heroes

Fictional characters are great and all, but nothing beats real-life heroes among us. Like little Sophia Sandoval. The 3-year-old is battling cancer and recently dressed in a Wonder Woman costume from her hospital bed after finishing eight months of chemo treatment. Striking a pose with one hand, she held a sign with her tiny fingers in the other that said, “It was tough. But I was tougher.”

If you can still see past the tears welling up in your eyes, check out a Facebook status update from Lynda Carter — who played Wonder Woman in the classic 1970s show— where she shared the picture and asked fans to give Sophia some love.

“We felt so happy and so special because we didn’t really expect that,” Sophia’s mother, Rossio Sandoval, told after the photo went viral. “It is so awesome because I know a lot of people who see this will see that my daughter is kicking cancer, and maybe it will help others.”
Sophia was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a brain tumor, last May and watched shows of her favorite superheroes to get her through chemo. “When she was taking the medicine, we would tell her she was going to get Super Woman or Wonder Woman powers,” said her mom.

She is now home in Texas, still recovering but playing with her siblings. In the next few weeks, she’ll head back to the hospital for an MRI and testing to make sure she is in remission.

We’re all thinking of you, wonder girl.
