The Ohio teenager disappeared after leaving a transitional living facility in Columbus on Dec. 2, 2025.

Months passed.

Then, on Aug. 21, 2026, investigators finally found her.

She was alive — inside the Springfield home of a 48-year-old former teacher.

SHE HAD BEEN MISSING SINCE DECEMBER

The girl was reported missing after she left Huckleberry House, a crisis and transitional living facility in Columbus.

Her family and authorities spent months trying to determine where she had gone.

According to PEOPLE, investigators eventually focused on the home of Jobe Binkley, a former Springfield City School District teacher.

The circumstances surrounding how the teenager came to be at his residence remain under investigation.

THEN CAME THE BREAKTHROUGH

On Aug. 21, an officer working with the U.S. Marshals Service went to Binkley’s Springfield home.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, Binkley allegedly acknowledged that the missing teenager was inside the house and called for her to come out.

She was found alive.

The discovery came after authorities had reportedly visited the residence twice before while searching for her. Investigators allege Binkley had previously denied that she was there and refused to allow officers inside.

After more than eight months of uncertainty, the missing-person search had finally come to an end.

THE FORMER TEACHER IS NOW CHARGED

Binkley has been charged with one count of interference with custody, a first-degree misdemeanor.

According to court records cited by PEOPLE, prosecutors allege that he knowingly allowed a missing teenager to remain at his home despite knowing she had been reported missing.

Binkley has pleaded not guilty and was released on bond.

His next pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 30, 2026.

QUESTIONS SURROUND THEIR CONNECTION

One of the biggest unanswered questions is how exactly Binkley and the teenager knew each other.

PEOPLE reports that it remains unclear whether Binkley had actually taught the girl.

Other reports have described him as a former science teacher in the Springfield school district.

The school district has said it did not become aware of allegations involving the teenager until after Binkley was no longer employed there.

Binkley had previously been placed on administrative leave and was later dismissed from the school district following a separate policy violation, according to records cited by ABC 6 and PEOPLE.

One neighbor told ABC 6 that there had been rumors the missing girl was staying at Binkley’s home, although the neighbor said she had never personally seen the teenager there.
