An Iranian Mother and Daughter’s Unbreakable Fight for Life and Healing After a Night That Changed Everything Forever

Somayeh Mehri, 29, and her daughter Rana, 3, live in a small town southeast of Bam city. The town is one of the poorest regions in Iran. Somayeh’s husband, Amir Afghanipour, being a thief and drug addict, was repeatedly beaten and detained her.

When Somayeh intends to divorce, Amir threatens to ruin the mold her face. One night in June 2011, he poured a bucket of acid on his wife and daughters when they are asleep. The entire face, hands as well as the body Somayeh and her daughter were both severely burned. She completely lost her eyesight Rana had one eye damaged.

Somayeh still needs to undergo hundreds of surgeries and Rana needed more than 70 surgeries. In addition to the main support government and villagers, they have to sell the land to have money to pay for the cost of surgery.
