$1 MILLION REWARD ANNOUNCED FOR MISSING GUS LAMONT AS POLICE REVEAL NEW AERIAL SEARCH CLUES

Almost one year after four-year-old Gus Lamont vanished from his family’s remote property in South Australia, authorities have announced a $1 million reward for information that could finally solve the mystery surrounding his disappearance.

Gus was last seen on September 27, 2025, at Oak Park Station near Yunta in South Australia’s outback.

Despite one of the largest and most intensive missing-person searches ever conducted by South Australia Police, the little boy has never been found.

Now, with the anniversary of his disappearance approaching, police are making another major appeal for information — while revealing that new anomalies have been identified in aerial imagery of the property.

$1 MILLION REWARD TO FIND ANSWERS

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas announced the record reward on September 23.

The money will be paid for information that leads to the conviction of the person or people responsible for Gus’s disappearance and/or the recovery of his remains.

Police have urged anyone who knows something about what happened to the boy to come forward, even if they believe their information may seem insignificant.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke, who leads the Major Crime Investigation Branch, said the reward could be life-changing for someone holding information that helps investigators.

Police say the disappearance remains a major-crime investigation.

NEW “ANOMALIES” FOUND IN AERIAL IMAGES

The announcement comes with another potentially significant development.

Task Force Horizon detectives have been reviewing extensive aerial imagery captured during the search for Gus.

Police now say they have identified “some anomalies” in the imagery.

Those images are being examined further to determine whether they contain information that could assist the investigation.

Depending on what investigators find, police could return to Oak Park Station and conduct another search.

This would come after months of extensive ground and aerial operations across the remote property and surrounding areas.

GUS HAS NEVER BEEN FOUND

Gus disappeared from the family’s sprawling sheep station almost one year ago.

Police have carried out 11 individual ground searches over 30 days, alongside extensive aerial searches involving PolAir, drones and aircraft equipped with specialist camera technology.

Earlier searches covered hundreds of square kilometres.

Police have also searched dams, mine shafts, waterways and other locations around Oak Park Station.

Despite those efforts, no trace of Gus has been found.

In February 2026, investigators declared the disappearance a major crime and said they did not believe Gus had simply wandered away.

Police also said they had found no evidence supporting a theory that an unknown person abducted him.

Their investigation subsequently focused on the possibility that someone known to Gus was involved in his disappearance and suspected death.

POLICE SAY ONE GRANDPARENT REMAINS A SUSPECT

Detective Superintendent Fielke confirmed on September 23 that one of Gus’s grandparents remains a suspect in the investigation.

He did not identify the person or provide further details, saying the investigation remains active.

Gus’s parents, Josh Lamont and Jess Murray, are not suspects, according to the latest police update.

Police have continued to stress that the investigation is ongoing and that information which could compromise potential future court proceedings cannot be publicly discussed.

GRANDMOTHER SAYS SHE BELIEVES GUS WAS TAKEN

Gus’s grandmother Josie Murray has previously spoken publicly about her belief that the little boy may have been taken by someone from outside the family.

In an interview earlier this year, Murray said she believed an abduction theory made more sense to her than other explanations.

She has also denied any involvement in Gus’s disappearance.

Murray told ABC that police had a theory that she may have buried Gus following an accident — an allegation she strongly rejected.

That theory is not a finding that she was responsible; it is an account of what Murray said police had suggested to her. Police have not publicly confirmed the specific details of their investigative theories.

A PREVIOUS DISAPPEARANCE RAISED QUESTIONS

In a June interview with 7NEWS Spotlight, Murray also revealed that Gus had previously wandered away from another part of the property.

She said the earlier incident happened while family members were away mustering, and that she eventually found him.

Murray raised the previous incident as part of her explanation for why she believes Gus may have been taken on the day he disappeared.

Again, this remains part of the family’s account and has not been established by police as what happened to Gus.

GUS’S PARENTS MAKE HEARTBREAKING APPEAL

As the one-year anniversary approaches, Gus’s parents have made an emotional appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

His mother, Jess Murray, said the family’s heartache continues to grow as time passes without answers.

She described Gus as a beautiful, sweet and unique little boy who loved music, stories and playing in nature.

His father, Josh Lamont, said the family desperately wants their son to come home and desperately needs answers.

The parents said someone may know what happened to Gus — and could potentially know where he is.

“SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING”

Police believe there may still be people who possess information that could help solve the case.

Almost a year after Gus disappeared, investigators are continuing to examine evidence gathered during previous searches while reviewing the newly identified anomalies in aerial imagery.

Whether those anomalies lead to another physical search remains to be determined.

For Gus’s family, however, the central question has remained unchanged:

Where is Gus Lamont, and what happened to him?

The $1 million reward is now one of the strongest incentives yet for anyone holding crucial information to finally come forward.
